GERRARD: I AM FULLY COMMITTED TO LFC
By Steve Hunter

Steven Gerrard has underlined his 100 per cent commitment to Liverpool
and says rumours about a supposedly done deal with Chelsea is just
absolute rubbish.

Gerrard has told fans not to believe everything they read in newspapers
and wants to put the record straight that he has not signed a deal with
any other club and is as committed to Liverpool Football Club as he has
ever been.

The Liverpool captain says the constant speculation about his future
throughout this season has been ridiculous and says he still wants to be
successful with his boyhood team.

In a passionate interview the Liverpool captain wants to reassure fans
that despite what has been written and said elsewhere he wants to help
Rafael Benitez build a successful team.

Gerrard said: "I held a press conference last summer to say I was
staying and the situation hasn't changed since then. I can tell you for
a fact the suggestion I've already made up my mind to leave Liverpool
and I've done a deal to join another club is absolute rubbish. There's
no deal for me to go anywhere and I've not even been thinking about that.

"There has been a lot of rubbish written about me this season and it's
getting ridiculous. There are people out there whom I've never even met
assuming they know what I think.

"Sometimes I feel I'm in a no-win situation. No doubt in Sunday's papers
someone somewhere will misinterpret this but if I say nothing, then
you'll have some fans saying 'Gerrard hasn't denied it, so it must be true'.

"On the one hand I want to put the record straight and let the fans know
they shouldn't believe everything they're hearing about me. On the
other, I know everything I say is being interpreted to mean one thing or
another.

"It gets to the point where you wonder if you should do interviews, but
I've always been honest in everything I've said. If I responded every
time a rumour was printed about me I would spend all my time denying I
had decided to go. How many times do I have to say it?"

Gerrard says he will sit down at the end of the situation and discuss
the future with Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez but believes the club
are headingin the right direction.

Gerrard said: "All I've been concentrating on since I decided to stay
last summer was being successful with Liverpool, making sure we qualify
for the Champions League next year and going as far as we can in the
Champions League this year.

"The last thing I want to to do is leave this club because I want us to
be challenging for honours every season. At the end of the season I'll
be sitting down with the manager and talking about the future, but until
then all of us are trying to just focus on doing the best for the club
and making sure we qualify for the Champions League."

REDS DUO IN DRAW WITH GERMANY
By Steve Hunter

Liverpool duo Scott Carson and John Welsh were in action for England
Under-21s when they drew 2-2 with Germany in an Under-21 European
Championship qualifier.

Unfortunately a mistake from Reds keeper Carson handed Germany an
equaliser when he hit a clearance straight to an opposing player, but it
most be noted he did make several excellent saves in the match. It could
also be said that a succession of bad misses cost England the points.

Carson played the full 90 minutes while Welsh played a very impressive
second half after appearing from the bench.

England Under-21 manager Peter Taylor backed Carson to bounce back and
said: "Scotty is very down and it was a bad mistake but he is a great
keeper and he will bounce back."

Welsh and Carson are next in action on Tuesday when they entertain
Azerbaijan at Middlesbrough's Riverside Stadium in a Euro Under-21
qualifier.

AnfieldRoad.com - Rafael: Fingers crossed

AnfieldRoad.com - Rafael: Fingers crossed: "Rafael: Fingers crossed
Written by Jim Boardman
Friday, 25 March 2005
Liverpool's midfield is going to have to manage without Didi Hamman until after both legs of the Champion's League clash with Juventus.

Rafael Benitez told the official Liverpool FC site about the extent of Hamman's injury: 'Didi will be out for a month. He has a ligament problem and usually it takes at least four weeks to recover. Now we need to look at some of the youngsters who did so well in the Carling Cup.'

Liverpool's former boss, Gerrard Houllier, was criticised for failing to make use of any of the players produced by the Liverpool academy. Under Benitez this has shown signs of changing with Steven Warnock standing out as a player who's made the move to the first team under the new boss.

Injuries have played a big part in team selection this season, and now Liverpool have run out of recognised strikers. will Benitez go for the inexperience of youth, or the experienced players playing out of position? He's not saying yet: 'I`d prefer not to talk too much about my options for the Bolton game now because of the internationals. I can plan to use players, but I have to make sure they come back from their national team fit. I need to wait and keep my fingers crossed. If I say I want to play with Luis Garcia and Steven Gerrard as attackers, I may find both are unavailable. After all, I now have a book of injuries.'

Igor Biscan looks set for a run in the side with all of the injuries, but doesn't feel that this is how he sees his future. 'The way things are looking now I think I`ll be leaving at the end of the season.' Vastly improved on previous seasons' performances, Biscan feels the rest of season is all about putting himself in the shop-window: 'I want to do well for myself over the rest of the season and in doing so I`ll do well for the team. If I`m going to leave the club then it`s important I play games to show the other teams what I am capable of.'

SMICER EARNS RESERVES A DRAW WITH EVERTON
Steve Hunter in Southport

Czech ace Vladimir Smicer has given Rafael Benitez a boost as he
assesses his striking options for the Bolton game as he scored a
brilliant goal in Liverpool Reserves 1-1 draw with Everton in the mini
derby at Southport's Haig Avenue.

Smicer played just behind Academy striker Conal Platt and was a lively
presence in the Liverpool side, especially in the second half.

After Eddy Bosnar had fired Everton into a first half lead with an
unstoppable 35-yard rocket Smicer equalised nine minutes into the second
half with an excellent finish following a flowing move and a brilliant
cross from David Raven.

Smicer, Mauricio Pellegrino and Antonio Nunez all featured for Liverpool
playing the full 90 minutes as did trialist Stephen Hogg, a 19-year-old
recently released by Manchester United. Hogg can play centre half or
central midfield and Paul Harrison lined up in goal.

Reds reserve manager Hughie McAuley was without the likes of John Welsh,
Richie Partridge and Darren Potter, away on international duty with
England Under-21s and Republic of Ireland Under-21s respectively.
Anthony Le Tallec didn't figure either.

McAuley has also lost another player for the season in England Under-20
striker Mark Smyth, who underwent a minor operation on his right knee
earlier this week that will sideline him for four to six weeks.

Jon Otsembor captained the Liverpool team in the absence of Welsh while
promising youngster James Smith partnered Pellegrino at centre half.
David Raven was at left back while Hogg played alongside David Mannix in
central midfield.

Everton's senior players included goalkeeper Richard Wright, Steve
Watson defender Eddy Bosnar, and French transfer window signing
midfielder Guillaume Plessis.

Hogg was instantly involved in the action showing good skill and then a
decent effort on goal which produced a good save from Richard Wright.

Everton went close after 10 minutes when Victor Anichebe let fly with a
stinging effort which was brilliantly pushed aside by Paul Harrison. The
Reds keeper is a fantastic shot stopper and demonstrated his ability yet
again.

Two minutes later a James Smith back pass didn't carry enough weight and
Harrison lost out in a 50-50 situation to Paul Hopkins. The Everton
striker dribbled past Harrison, could have had a penalty as the keeper
made contact, but advantage was played. Hopkins stayed on his feet and a
goal seemed certain until Mauricio Pellegrino appeared from nowhere to
make a fantastic challenge and deflect the ball behind for a corner.

It was turning into quite an eventful debut for trialist Stephen Hogg
and he was booked for a wild challenge, then from the resulting
free-kick Harrison did well to hang onto Eddy Bosnar's header.

Bosnar wasn't to be denied and he scored a stunning goal to put Everton
into the lead after 31 minutes with a 35-yard rocket that gave Harrison
absolutely no chance. Bosnar also scored a free-kick in Everton's 1-0
winner over Liverpool in the mini derby at Wrexham earlier this season.

Bosnar was then forced off the field just before half time after he came
off worst in a challenge from Antonio Nunez.

Six minutes into the second half Liverpool should have equalised.
Scotland youth international Ryan Wilkie showed silky skills down the
left wing and produced a fantastic cross straight to the head of Nunez
but unfortunately his header was straight at Wright.

Three minutes later Liverpool drew level with a brilliant goal from
Vladimir Smicer. David Mannix was the instigator of the goal with a
superb pass out to Smicer who in turn fed the overlapping Raven down the
left. Raven produced a superb low cross and Smicer fired into the net
for a great goal.

Liverpool were playing well now in the second half and the movement at
times was excellent with Mannix and Smicer combining well.

The Czech probably should have won the game for Liverpool 11 minutes
from time when he ran clean through but with just Wright to beat he
miscued the shot as the ball went wide.

Then in the last minute of the match Richard Wright saved Everton with a
great stop to keep out a David Mannix curled free-kick.

Everton Reserves: Wright, Wynne, Wright, Bosnar (Kearney 45), Hughes,
Harris, Watson, Plessis, Anichebe, Hopkins, Seargeant.

Liverpool Reserves: Harrison, Otsemobor, Raven, J Smith, Pellegrino,
Hogg, Nunez, Mannix, Platt, Smicer, Wilkie. Unused subs: O'Donnell,
Luzi, Noon, Hammill, Barratt.

Referee: R Schoebridge.

Liverpoolfc.tv Man of the Match: David Mannix, outstanding in central
midfield and Ryan Wilkie also had a fine match. James Smith had another
fine game in defence and Mauricio Pellegrino was excellent.

CARRA DREAMING OF ENGLAND GLORY
By Paul Eaton

Jamie Carragher is hoping his magnificent form for Liverpool this season
will be rewarded with a place in England's World Cup squad.

Despite acknowledging he is only sixth choice in the centre of defence
for his country, the Liverpool star still hopes to play his part in
helping his country to glory in Germany next summer.

England still have work to do to qualify for the finals, but with a
double header coming up over the next week against Northern Ireland and
Azerbaijan, Sven's men could soon be celebrating qualification for next
summer's showpiece event.

"You know, I didn't even dream of playing for England as a kid because I
thought it would be so far fetched," said Carragher. "To be doing it now
is incredible and I just count my blessings.

"I just hope I can keep playing well, keep scratching into the squads,
and who knows what happens? We really believe we will qualify for the
finals in Germany, and I think we have got a terrific chance when we get
there.

"No South American team has won in Europe apart from Brazil in 1958. And
when you look at the strength we have there is every right to have real
confidence.

"Centre-half is such an important position in any side, and to be
blessed there like we are is a real bonus to be taking into any tournament.

"My ambition is to be part of that. I missed out on Japan because of
injury and I'd really like to make up for that.

"I've just got to keep playing and hope I can be part of the squad, and
then who knows? I've got England caps, so I can dream a bit more can't I?"

He added: "If I'm being realistic about it, I don't have a chance of
making the side if everyone is fit. I've just got to keep plugging away,
turning up and hoping that there are injuries, which always seems to be
the case in my position.

"But if you look at the players we've got, then there can not be any
better in the world. There are four or five ahead of me, and they play
for four of the best teams in Europe.

"There's Sol at Arsenal, Rio with Man United, John Terry plays for
Chelsea and Woodgate at Real Madrid. It's incredible really and you can
see why we are confident of doing well in this World Cup."

* Luis Garcia remains on course to make his first ever appearance for
Spain after successfully coming through a training session yesterday.

Garcia picked up an ankle injury during Sunday's derby victory over
Everton and was expected to pull out of the Spanish squad.

But he completed a full training session on Tuesday and is in line to
make his first ever international appearance.

Spain face China in a friendly this weekend before a World Cup qualifier
with Serbia and Montenegro next week.

Warnock's injury woe
By Chris Bascombe, Liverpool Echo

STEPHEN WARNOCK today spoke of his despair at a premature derby exit
last weekend, but relief his injury isn't as bad as feared.

Despite leaving Anfield on crutches on Sunday, the youngster expects to
recover from a bruised ankle in two weeks.

That will be too late for the visit of Bolton, and may also rule him out
of the Champions League clash with Juventus.

However, manager Rafa Benitez may soon be able to recall Djimi Traore
who's missed the last four games with a thigh injury.

For Warnock the knock was a bitter blow after he was starting to
establish himself at left-back.

"It was very disappointing that I had to come off early. I tried to
carry on but it wasn't right so I had to come off," said Warnock.

"It was my first derby and I was desperate to play for 90 minutes. You
never want to come off in games like that.

"It was a massive game for me and I was really up for it. I wanted to
give it half time but I knew I couldn't go on.

"I've never known a season for so many injuries and operations. You know
in a derby there are going to be tough tackles, but you'd never expect
to lose three players in 40 minutes.

"We did brilliantly to get through that. "We've got to show the same
enthusiasm in the next few games. The international break will hopefully
give us a chance to recuperate and push on.

"The derby win only becomes important if we follow it up with a victory
in our next home game. We've still got to close the gap on Everton in
our remaining matches.

"After last Sunday's win we're all buzzing with confidence and can't
wait for the next game.

"We'd never have given in no matter what happened against Everton, but
you can look at it in hindsight and admit it would have been over if we
hadn't won. But now we know we're right back in the hunt for fourth."

Despite initial fears of a long-lay off, scans revealed the 23-year- old
could be back in action soon.

Forgotten Diarra hoping to cut Anfield ties
By Andy Hunter, Daily Post

LIVERPOOL'S forgotten midfielder Alou Diarra has announced he has no
plans to return to Anfield this summer.

French international Diarra was signed on a free transfer from Bayern
Munich in July 2002 but incredibly has never been involved in an Anfield
fixture since.

He was immediately loaned out to La Havre by Gerard Houllier in 2002,
then Bastia for the 2003-04 season and last summer signed a 12-month
loan agreement with Lens.

The midfielder has flourished at Lens and earned international
recognition for France in World Cup qualifiers against Ireland and
Cyprus last October.

That raised the possibility of actually playing for his employers next
season under Rafael Benitez. But last night Diarra admitted he wants to
secure a permanent move to Lens when his loan deal expires at the end of
this campaign.

"I have found a well-balanced life here," said the 23-year-old. "Lens
are ambitious and it is due to this club that I have become an
international player.

"Perhaps an agreement can be found between Liverpool and Racing. I hope
so because it would be sad not to be a part of this adventure."

Mersey duo are £20m bounty hunters
By Alan Hansen

Liverpool meet Everton at Anfield on Sunday in a Merseyside derby where
the stakes are even higher than normal - perhaps as high as £20m for the
winner.

That is the prize at stake as Merseyside's big two chase fourth place in
the Premiership, and the massive financial bounty on offer for Champions
League qualification.

Liverpool are currently doing the chasing, and I think if Everton win
they will end up getting fourth place.

If Rafael Benitez's side win it may just be enough to give them the
impetus heading into the final weeks of the season.

When predicting the outcome of games like these, there are so many
imponderables to take into account that it is almost impossible.

If you put a gun to my head I would say Liverpool to win, but I wouldn't
necessarily do it with huge confidence.

The three points will count more than the cash on offer to the
supporters, but the prize money you get for qualifying for the Champions
League will be like gold dust to the two clubs in their current
financial positions.

Everton are still waiting on confirmation of investment from the
Fortress Sport Fund, while Liverpool are actively looking for a major
investor to enable them to challenge at the top of the Premiership once
more.

I say Liverpool would be favourites on their own ground, but anyone
under-estimating Everton does so at their peril because they have been
magnificent this season.

You can rest assured Everton will be meticulously prepared by David
Moyes, who has done a wonderful job this season.

And they have this priceless ability to bounce back just when you think
they may be going off the boil.

They got thoroughly pummelled by Manchester United in the FA Cup, and
just as the doubts started to kick in, they responded with a superb
performance at Aston Villa when they played the home side off the park.

Everton then followed that up with a bitterly disappointing home defeat
against Blackburn - but history tells us that may galvanise them to go
again at Liverpool.

One thing we do know is that it will be fast, furious, the tackles will
fly in and there is no room for the faint-hearted - a far cry from
Liverpool's goalless draw against Blackburn.

Every player will be fired up, and if they are not they shouldn't be
playing professional football.

And if you look for form pointers don't bother - it doesn't count for
anything.

Flowing football will be in short supply. Time and space will be at a
premium and it could all come down to a single error.

For Liverpool, one thing has remained consistent in a season blighted by
inconsistency, and that is their form at Anfield.

They have been excellent at home, turning out consistent victories and
pleasing the Anfield punters with their style into the bargain - the
Blackburn match apart.

Steven Gerrard is of course a key man, and as they showed against Bayer
Leverkusen, when they get it right they can be quite a force.

Too often, however, they have followed up good performances with bad.
They can go from great highs to massive lows, and Benitez will not want
that to happen on Sunday.

Everton will make it tough for them, because they are strong
defensively, indeed it is probably fair to say that the way they are set
up makes them more formidable away from home than at Goodison Park.

But Liverpool have been scoring goals at home, and sometimes it is not a
matter of your formation in derby games, it is the small details or
small pieces of luck that make the difference.

The key area, for me, will be in defence.

One mistake could decide it, but there are some experienced customers
about on both sides, such as Alan Stubbs and David Weir for Everton and
Sami Hyypia and Jamie Carragher for Liverpool.

It may even come down to the two goalkeepers, Nigel Martyn and Jerzy Dudek.

Martyn has had a fine season with Everton, whereas Dudek has made
mistakes for Liverpool, but that doesn't mean that is what is going to
happen on Sunday.

The line is that fine - but the financial prize could be massive for the
winners.

Liverpool Echo, 22 Mar 2005
This is MY dream team
Tranmere captain Jason McAteer tells Tony Barrett why he's staging one
of the most important games of his life.

BY HIS own admission, Jason McAteer has a reputation within football for
not being the most intellectual of individuals.

The nickname "Trigger", in honour of the nice but dim Only Fools And
Horses character, has followed him throughout his career that has taken
him from Crosby to Birkenhead via high profile stop offs in Bolton,
Liverpool, Blackburn and Sunderland.

Jason freely admits it is an image he has been happy to cultivate - even
owning up to telling a chef who asked him whether he would like his
pizza cut into four or eight pieces "just cut it into four, I couldn't
possibly eat eight".

But now Jason has turned his image on its head by organising one of the
biggest tsunami benefit events held in this country.

With his mobile phone pinned permanently to his ear, Jason has called in
favour after favour putting together two teams of stars from the worlds
of football and showbiz for a charity match.

"It has been a bit of an eyeopener for me," he admits.. "When you do
something like this you find out you can do things that can even
surprise yourself.

"It has been really enjoyable being involved in the organisation of the
match because it is something that I couldn't have imagined doing before.

"But it has given me food for thought for the future because up until
now pretty much all of my life has revolved around football."

Almost every single day for the last two months Jason has finished
training with Tranmere Rovers and gone home to spend hour upon hour
going through his little black book of contacts.

And when your contacts book includes the likes of Hollywood movie stars
Colin Farrell and Clive Owen, greats from Liverpool FC's glorious past
and even Robbie Williams you have got more chance than most to put
together a decent celebrity team.

But one phone call in particular proved more daunting than most. "I went
to my mates first and Robbie (Fowler), Macca (Steve McManaman) and John
Barnes all agreed to take part straight away.

"Then I decided to give Kenny Dalglish a ring and, to be honest, I was
more nervous than I've ever been in my life.

"I grew up watching Kenny and he was my hero when I was a kid so it was
a big thing for me but he was as good as gold and said it would be a
pleasure to take part.

"But even so whenever he rings me I still see his name flash up on my
phone and I think 'Jesus, it's Kenny Dalglish!'"

But what motivated the highly paid Tran-mere Rovers captain to go all
Bob Geldof by using charity work as a means of exercising his social
conscience?

The simple answer is the feeling of profound helplessness that engulfed
everyone when the tsunami struck on Boxing Day. But instead of making a
donation to a collection, Jason decided to do something on a much
grander scale.

He says: "I was struggling to get to grips with the scale of the
disaster from what I had seen on TV and then I watched a BBC documentary
which showed what had happened and the effects on people.

"The images of the dads who had lost children and the kids wandering
past dead bodies looking for their parents really struck home and upset me.

"I have a little boy, Harry, who is four and I said to my girlfriend,
Lisa, as we were watching, 'If I wasn't contracted to play football, I
would go out there tomorrow'.

"We were talking about how much of a donation we were going to make to
the disaster fund and I thought it was too easy to just put your hand in
your pocket and then forget about it.

"I went to bed thinking about what I could really do to help. I did not
sleep that night. I realised I had to think everything through about the
idea because I could not go to my agent Dave Lockwood, the next morning
to ask for his help on the basis of a whim. And I found every question
that came into my head I had an answer for."

So far, every time Jason has posed himself a question he has come up
with the right answer. He has unquestionably managed to gauge the public
mood, as illustrated by the fact that more than 30,000 tickets have
already been sold for Sunday's benefit game at Anfield.

Celebrities are falling over themselves to get involved and Sky TV have
recognised the enormity of the occasion by deciding to screen the match
live.

The only question remaining is: is Colin Farrell really going to turn up?

"Honest to God, he is pencilled in to play," insists Jason who grew
close to the Hollywood actor while on international duty with the
Republic of Ireland in Farrell's native Dublin.

"He has even put it up on his personal website, that is how committed he
is to coming.

"But, no matter what happens, Nicky Byrne and Brian McFadden from
Westlife, Keith Duffy from Boyzone and Coronation Street and Shane
Ritchie and Ralph Little will all be there."

As a boyhood Liverpool fan Jason has allowed himself one showbiz style
indulgence. He will appear on the same pitch as his Dalglish.

He says: "I have told our team manager, Roy Evans, that whatever happens
and no matter what changes he makes during the game he has to let me
play alongside Kenny.

"That will be a dream come true for me and I think he must be excited
about playing in the same team as me because whenever I've spoken to him
during the last few days he's been in the gym!"

* TICKETS for the Tsunami Soccer Aid game are currently on sale - priced
£15 for adults; £10 for over 65s and disabled concessions; £5 for under
16s - at the Liverpool FC ticket office and the Tranmere Rovers shop.

Vignal's Rangers talks break down

GREGORY VIGNAL could be heading back to Anfield after talks with Rangers
broke down.

The Liverpool defender's loan deal ends in the summer and he was keen to
extend his stay at Ibrox.

It is believed he was offered a three-year deal by chief executive
Martin Bain but the player was far from impressed by the terms on offer.

His agent Philippe Flavier said: "There has been no progress at all. I
think the talks have come to a full stop.

"We met with Martin Bain today for the second time and there was no
movement.

"We are both very disappointed because he loves playing for Rangers and
is very happy with the coach but we have no choice.

"Now I will work with other interests because we have time before May.

"It is not a good ending to a weekend that brought a cup win but Gregory
still has a league championship to win and will do his best."

* CHESTER CITY are hoping to complete the signing of Liverpool
goal-keeper Paul Harrison before Thursday's transfer deadline.

Harrison is a product of the Anfield School of Excellence and City
chairman Stephen Vaughan is trying to agree a deal with the 20-year-old
this week.

"I have spoken to Paul's agent and hope-fully we can conclude a mutually
beneficial deal prior to Thursday's deadline," said Vaughan.

"Paul has been a regular with Liverpool's reserve side, and he is a
player whom we would like to be a part of our future."

Liverpool Daily Post, 22 Mar 2005
Points shared in eight-goal thriller
Academy Footabll with Chris Wright, Daily Post

DESPITE being 4-1 ahead at one point, Liverpool under-18s are still
looking for their first win of 2005 after they drew 4-4 in a thrilling
match with Crewe Alexandra at the Kirkby Academy.

John Owens's side are still bottom of the FA Premier Academy League
Group C table, but on Saturday they played some excellent football.

Liverpool went behind after 10 minutes somewhat against the run of play.
But they responded well and were 3-1 up at the break.

Adam Hammill grabbed the equaliser with a drive from the edge of the box
for his first of the season.

Then Republic of Ireland youth international striker Conal Platt scored
twice to take his tally to seven in all competitions.

The first came when he pounced close to the line as Crewe's trialist
keeper dropped the ball. Then Platt came in from the left and his low
shot went straight under the keep-er's body.

Not long into the second half Liverpool made it 4-1 after Hammill scored
his second with a shot from 20 yards. But the three-goal lead lasted a
matter of minutes as Crewe pulled a goal back almost immediately and
some late pressure paid off as they scored twice to grab a point.

Owens said: "In the past few weeks we have packed the midfield and
played one up front and that has been better defensively. But going back
to 4-4-2 does give you more chances to score.

"To be fair the Crewe goalkeeper was at fault with the goals, but
obviously it is good to have taken the chances that we had been hoping
for in recent weeks.

"Crewe took off their keeper and put on one of their outfield players in
goal instead of him. But we were very attacking and that was down to the
four in midfield.

"They were very much attack-minded and the defending was left very much
to the back four. And as was the case earlier in the season, we have let
goals in. Sadly it seems we can't have it both ways."

He added: "Adam Ham-mill did very well in an unfamiliar role in centre
midfield. Normally we would have someone a bit more experienced and
defence-minded like Danny Guthrie in there. We obviously missed his
strength, but Adam did well as did Paul Barratt."

LIVERPOOL UNDER-18s: Lancaster; J Smith, D Smith, Threlfall, O'Donnell;
Wilkie, Hammill, Barratt, Burns; Noon (Woodward 75), Platt (Pringle 75).
Subs: Willis.

Derby commitment there for all to see
By Mark Lawrenson, Daily Post

I WAS taken aback at Anfield on Sunday by seeing things I have never
seen before on a football pitch.

The first was three Liverpool players going off injured before
half-time, the second was Luis Garcia showing courage and determination
to finish the game and the third was Milan Baros displaying the
intelligence of a petulant five-year-old.

To begin with the injuries, it was just amazing. I mean, you expect the
odd knock as the game goes on, or players getting cramp and so on, but
not one after another.

I feel especially sorry for Stephen Warnock, who has made a breakthrough
in recent weeks. He may not be the best left-back in the world, but he
loves a tackle and that attitude endeared him to the Anfield faithful.

Garcia's effort in playing the second half on virtually one leg should
also be acknowledged, because he really put the team before himself.

I have criticised the Spaniard this season for flitting in and out of
games and not matching his undoubted talent with application. In too
many matches he thought a few flicks and olés were enough, but he also
has to contribute to the team when those skills are not coming off.

In recent weeks it looks as though the penny has dropped and on Sunday,
he certainly showed the type of commitment to the cause everyone has
wanted to see. Maybe some of the other players at the club will learn
from that.

It could be the turning point for the midfielder - if it is then
Liverpool have a player Rafael Benitez can rely on, instead of one who
blows hot and cold.

That is the key at this level. Everyone has the ability, but it is the
play-ers who can produce it week in, week out that are the exceptional
ones. Liverpool just haven't had enough of them so far under Benitez.

Talking of players you can rely on, do you think Baros will be in that
category now? I hope that Benitez read him the riot act after the match
because of the situation he left his team-mates in, and leaves them in
for the next few games.

First of all he misses two clear-cut chances - the second when the
goal-keeper was sitting down - and then he gets himself sent off for a
diabolical tackle.

I think if he had scored then the tackle on Alan Stubbs would never have
happened. As it was he must have been aware that Fernando Morientes was
injured and Garcia was on one leg, and yet he went ahead and got himself
sent off anyway.

That is just crazy behaviour - brainless really - because from cruising
to victory, Liverpool could have drawn the game. They were hanging on
and it is only due to sterling performances from the likes of Jamie
Carragher and Mauricio Pellegrino that they didn't.

Carragher was his usual self, but Pellegrino impressed me too. Obviously
he has plenty of experience, but I think his organisational skills came
to the fore against Everton. He is a good talker and was pushing and
pulling people all over the place to keep Liverpool tight at the back.

He may only be a stand-in player, but I think he is a good player to
have waiting in the wings. I also think he will play against Bolton
because their strength is, well, their strength. They load the box and
get the ball in there, which means you have to pick your tallest team
against them.

Of course, it is up front where the problem lies for Liverpool, because
of all the injuries and Baros's idiocy. I know Benitez has said they
don't have enough players in the right positions, but no-one could
legislate for four strikers being injured at once, three of them for the
season.

There are two weeks to go until the Bolton match, so you would hope that
Morientes can recover from his strain in time. It is not beyond the
realms of possibility because they usually take 10 days or so. If he
makes it, I would expect the Spanish striker to be supported by Steven
Gerrard or Vladimir Smicer against Bolton, in a match I'd be reasonably
confident of Liverpool winning.

If he doesn't then the task becomes harder because it would be Smicer as
the lone striker, unless Harry Kewell is fit again.

The thing about Bolton is that they don't score many goals, but they are
just difficult to play against so whoever takes to the field for
Liverpool, they must be strong when it counts. They were against
Everton, even with their team-mates dropping like flies around them. I
hope they will be again, injuries and inconsistency permitting.

Frustration and not malice spoilt Baros
By Ian Rush, Liverpool Echo

I FELT sorry for Milan Baros on Sunday. There was no argument about his
sending off. It was a bad challenge and he deserved to go.

But the motivation behind it was sheer frustration rather than malice.

Although he's taken a lot of stick, I thought Baros played very well.
The only part of his game which let him down was his finishing.

I can understand how frustrated he must have felt, and while that's no
excuse for his tackle, it explains why he lost his head.

I'm sure he felt he should have settled the game much sooner.

While he was on the pitch, Baros did everything his manager wanted
except the admittedly crucial task of putting the ball in the net.

The missed chances apart, Baros was still one of the reasons Liverpool
dominated the game for so long, so some of the criticism aimed at him is
unfair.

Liverpool's running off the ball was particularly impressive. Both Luis
Garcia and Baros gave Alan Stubbs and David Weir a torrid afternoon.

Going into the game there were certain players you knew would be on top
form, such as Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard.

But Liverpool won because others also gave their most impressive
performances for the club. Garcia, Mauricio Pellegrino and Antonio Nunez
were excellent.

I know my Evertonian friends looked at those type of players and thought
they might suffer in the heat of the derby. But the reverse was true.
The occasion brought the best out of them.

Now they've set a standard, we all expect to see the same more often.

We're all mystified about why Liverpool are capable of playing to such a
high standard against Everton but failed to have a meaningful shot on
goal against Blackburn.

The only conclusion is the attitude isn't what it should be from one
game to the next.

It's not players don't go out there intending to give their best, it's
simply the big occasion brings the best out.

What separates the top players is the ability to motivate yourself to
maintain top form no matter that the opposition.

Liverpool must replay what happened on Sunday every week then there's no
doubt they'll secure the crucial fourth spot.

Beware of Bolton tie

WITH all the attention on the Merseyside derby, both Liverpool and
Everton must beware the threat of Bolton.

Liverpool's win was as useful to Sam Allardyce as it was to Rafa Benitez.

Everyone was talking before the derby about how much the game meant to
Liverpool, but the visit of Bolton in two weeks is equal in importance.

I hope both players and fans approach the match in exactly the same way.

Anfield was buzzing on Sunday. Everyone knew how important it was to set
the right tone.

There's no point everyone thinking the hard work is now done.

All the three points have done is give Liverpool a great chance when
anything but a win might have made it a hopeless chase.

In many respects, the hardest work is still to come, starting with the
next home game.

Juve draw will be close

IT SEEMS no one gives Liverpool much hope of beating Juventus in the
Champions League quarter-final.

I suspect the tie between my old clubs will be much closer than people
anticipate.

Juventus clearly start as favourites, but my friends in Italy will rate
a result at Anfield as one of the best in their European history. That's
how tough they expect it to be.

We all know how unique it is at Anfield on a European night. The
atmosphere is always fantastic and I'm sure we'll see a top performance
from the Reds.

If they can stay in contention, anything can happen in Turin.

I'll meet many old friends when I go to Turin to watch the game. But I'm
not as convinced as many others that the fixture is as big a formality
as some might believe.

Liverpool Daily Post, 22 Mar 2005
Carragher tipped to be future Anfield leader
By Andy Hunter, Daily Post

DIETMAR HAMANN last night tipped Jamie Carragher as a future Anfield
captain as he admitted Liverpool must sustain their derby heroics to
claim a Champions League prize.

Carragher produced another fine performance in the heart of the
Liverpool defence on Sunday as Rafael Benitez's team closed the gap on
fourth-placed Everton to just four points.

The Liverpool manager has praised the 27-year-old as the "best
centre-half in England" this season. And midfielder Hamann believes the
Bootle-born defender, set to sign a new long-term deal at Anfield this
summer, has all the attributes to assume the captain's armband should
Steven Gerrard ever relinquish the honour.

"Carra is the sort of player who always leads by example, and he turned
in another top performance against Everton. No-one should be surprised
by that," said Hamann. "He does it all the time. He may be a bit of an
unsung hero to some, but no-one in the dressing room underestimates his
value to the team.

"He is the sort of player you need, because you always know what you are
going to get from him. You know you can depend on him in any situation.
If the captaincy comes up at any stage, then why not Carra? He has all
the qualities, and that shone through again in the Everton match."

Carragher was not alone in producing a convincing performance against
Liverpool's Merseyside rivals. And Hamann admits the victory will only
count if Liverpool raise their game to similar levels over the final
eight league games of the season.

"I always thought we would rise to the occasion against Everton," said
the Liverpool midfielder. "There was so much on it, we were bound to be
up for it, and it really was a fantastic performance.

"The big question now, though, is can we produce the same level of
performance when there isn't the same sense of occasion? That is where
we have fallen down this season, against the so-called lesser teams.
That is when our standards have dropped a bit.

"I can't explain it, but it is essential now that the Everton
performance becomes the benchmark for the rest of the campaign.

"There's no point dwelling on problems from earlier in the season. We
have got to take encouragement from our recent form against Bayer
Levekusen and Everton and look forward with confidence and self-belief.
Those are the levels we have got to maintain in every game now,
regardless of the opposition.

"We haven't always done it before, but the good thing is, we're so close
to that last Champions' League place now. The Everton win has given us
all a huge lift, and I think that will drive us on now. Everyone is
heading into the two-week break on a high note, so we should return for
the Bolton game in the same spirit.

"You could see from the manager's reaction at the end that it meant a
lot to him as well. He doesn't normally come on to the pitch and join in
celebrations like that, but he knows how much it means to the
supporters. Clearly it does to him, too."

Hamann was one of four Liverpool players injured during the Anfield
triumph and has now reported for international duty in Germany for
treatment on a medial knee ligament strain.

And he admits the fortnight's break before Bolton visit Anfield on April
2 has arrived at an ideal time for Liverpool's walking wounded.

Hamann added: "If we had lost, it would probably have been all over for
us in the race for fourth place. Even a draw would have made it very
difficult, so it was huge for us to play so well and win. We have given
ourselves a real chance now.

"We could have done without all the injuries, but at least we've got a
couple of weeks to assess the damage. There is a danger we could go into
the Bolton game without a recognised striker, but we'll just have to
hope some of the injuries clear up in time."

Baros 'sorry' over tackle
By David Prentice, Liverpool Echo

MILAN BAROS has apologised to Everton defender Alan Stubbs after the
X-rated challenge which saw him sent off in Sunday's Anfield derby.

Stubbs reacted furiously to the tackle in his post match interviews,
accusing the Czech striker of deliberately trying to injure him, but
last night Baros said he did not mean to harm the Blues' defender.

"I wanted to kick the ball away," said Baros. "I closed my eyes and ran
for it and unluckily I hit his knee. I am sorry.

"My style of playing is based on aggressiveness. I appreciate it looked
furious on television but I surely didn't want to knowingly foul him. I
wanted to kick the ball away.

"I saw worse fouls and they were only yellow cards, but this doesn't
excuse me. My challenge was surely a red card. I will be given a
three-match ban, that's normal here. If we hadn't won, I would have felt
guilty for that."

It is believed that Stubbs will accept Baros' apology if the player
contacts him directly to explain his challenge.

Stubbs was furious after the match, saying: "It was a ridiculous
challenge. I would crucify myself if I made a challenge like that.

"It was a challenge that could finish a player's career. I won't have it
that it was a striker's challenge. There is no such thing. That's nonsense.

"I can accept players who turn their back and leave their foot dangling.
But no player should look at another player and leave their foot there
deliberately. I don't accept it.

"I'd have been first to shake his hand if he'd turned away and left his
foot dangling, but it wasn't the case. There's no place for that in
football."

Benitez faces up to a striker shortage
By David Prentice At Anfield, Liverpool Echo

RAFA BENITEZ was left counting the cost of yesterday's compelling
Anfield derby success.

The Reds' boss ended the game with his entire strikeforce in the
dug-out, and was forced to make all three substitutions before half-time.

Injuries could see him without four key figures for the equally crucial
visit of Bolton in April.

Milan Baros will be suspended for three games following his reckless
red-card, but he could be joined on the sidelines by:

* Fernando Morientes, who could be missing for two to three weeks with a
"muscle problem."

* Dietmar Hamman, who has a knee injury which could sideline him for the
same period.

* Steve Warnock, who will be out for 10 days with an ankle knock.

* And Luis Garcia, who may take one/two weeks to shake off an ankle injury.

"I may start training now," joked Benitez, who was nevertheless
delighted by his side's character and attitude.

"I would like to see that type of mentality every match," he declared.
"I think we played a fantastic game.

"The first half we played at a high tempo with good passing.

"We lost three players, then played the second half with almost 10
players because Garcia had a problem - and then nine after the
sending-off - but we still created two good chances.

"Maybe the injuries are a reason why we have been inconsistent. We don't
have enough players to cover the right positions."

The Reds' boss tried to defend Baros for his red card which will see him
miss three games through suspension.

"It is very difficult," he said. "He has made one or two mistakes and
maybe he was frustrated and tried to tackle. I would like to see more
yellow cards in games rather than referees reaching straight for the red.

"But I think we played better than them and reduced the gap, which will
make it easier for us to play like that again with more confidence."

Benitez refused to single out individuals, adding: "I would prefer not
to talk about just Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard, because Mauricio
Pellegrino, Jerzy Dudek, Steve Finnan and Luis all played good games today.

"We have 10 to 15 days to enjoy the situation because we have no more
games now."

[lfc-news] Gerrard hails Liverpool "lions" - PA

PA Sport, 20 Mar 2005
GERRARD HAILS LIVERPOOL 'LIONS'

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard said the Reds "defended like lions" to
make sure of three points from the 201st Merseyside derby.

Gerrard opened the scoring and Luis Garcia doubled the advantage before
Tim Cahill set up a frantic finish with an 82nd-minute goal.

But the Reds held on to cut the gap between Everton and themselves to
just four points as the chase for fourth place - and possible Champions
League qualification - hots up.

Gerrard said afterwards: "The game could have been a lot easier if Milan
Baros had taken his chances but unfortunately he missed them and was
later sent off.

"But as a defensive unit we defended like lions.

"Everything went wrong with injuries (to Fernando Morientes, Dietmar
Hamann and Stephen Warnock) in the first half but we stuck together and
ground it out.

"We dominated the game to get 2-0 ahead - but then there was hard work."

Gerrard is hoping his performance will silence some of the critics who
were unhappy with the midweek goalless draw against Blackburn.

He said: "I always enjoy playing and scoring and it was nice to get my
10th goal of the season - we knew nothing else would do other than the
three points.

"I'm captain of this club so I'll take criticism - some of it is a
little bit unfair but I'll take it on the chin and get on with it."

Team-mate Jamie Carragher added on Sky Sports: "We've taken a lot of
stick this season and I think a lot of people wanted Everton to win today.

"But it was a massive game for us and psychologically it will give us a
big lift."

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez said: "I'm delighted for the players, for
the supporters and for the club - it's a fantastic victory.

"We knew it was important to get the three points for the confidence of
the team and to win in front of your own supporters is also important."

The Spaniard, who confirmed that Fernando Morientes and Dietmar Hamann
had joined the Anfield injury list, added: "It's difficult to be
consistent without all the squad fit.

"But we've put pressure on Everton - and we'll try to do it in the next
game."

Everton counterpart David Moyes was disappointed referee Rob Styles only
played three minutes of added time in a game which also saw Milan Baros
dismissed.

He added on Sky Sports: "It definitely wasn't three minutes - and I
think we played three minutes to the second - I can't believe it.

"But I've got to say I thought Liverpool were very good in the first half.

"They put us under pressure, which we knew would happen, but we didn't
get a lot of protection or the decisions that matter to us.

"But they probably deserved the win on their first-half performance."

The Scot revealed Nigel Martyn has accepted responsibility for
Liverpool's second goal, as he inadequately dealt with a long-range
Morientes effort.

Moyes explained: "He has been our best player probably for the last two
years - but he has held his hand up.

"We're disappointed with it but he's a terrific goalkeeper and he's
saved us many, many times, so we'll move on and hopefully it won't
happen again.

"Four points is a decent number (points advantage over Liverpool) and
it's great to talk about us being there.

"A lot wasn't expected of us this season so it's nice to be in there."

POST-DERBY INJURY UPDATE
By Paul Eaton

Liverpool could be without four first team players for their next
Premiership clash in two weeks time following a series of injuries
during this afternoon's derby.

Rafael Benitez was forced into making all three of his substitutions
during the first half and then had to keep Luis Garcia on the field
throughout the second period despite the Spaniard clearly struggling
with injury.

Stephen Warnock was first to leave the field with an ankle injury. He
underwent a scan after coming off and was relieved to discover he'd
sustained nothing more serious than heavy swelling.

Didi Hamann was next to leave the action after picking up a medial
ligament strain and Fernando Morientes followed soon after with a thigh
problem.

Manager Rafael Benitez said: "We need to see how the injuries settle
down now.

"Maybe they will all be out for two or three weeks. It's hard to say at
this stage but clearly we have a lot of problems at the moment.

"I am so proud of the players for the way they coped with the situation.
It was a very difficult game and this is such a good win for us. We
played with a high tempo in the first half and definitely deserved our
victory."

Milan Baros is also out for the next three games after being sent off
for a wild challenge on Alan Stubbs.

"We are going to be short in attack now," said the manager. "I have seen
the replays of the incident and maybe it was a red card offence.

"If we get any more problems then I'm going to have to start training
myself."

PA Sport, 20 Mar 2005
Liverpool 2 Everton 1

Liverpool clawed their way to within five points of Barclays Premiership
neighbours Everton with victory in a dramatic derby battle at Anfield.

The hosts were two goals ahead through Steven Gerrard and Luis Garcia at
the break, but by then had lost Fernando Morientes, Dietmar Hamann and
Stephen Warnock injured.

The second period was a battle for Liverpool to survive, made worse when
Milan Baros was sent off for a foul on Alan Stubbs.

Everton scored through Tim Cahill to set up a frantic finale but they
could not force the equaliser.

Mauricio Pellegrino held his place in the heart of Liverpool's defence.
He played in the midweek draw with Blackburn because Sami Hyypia had a
stomach upset - but boss Rafael Benitez named the Finn on the bench to
allow the big Argentinian a chance to cement himself into Liverpool's
first-choice side.

John Arne Riise, rested in midweek, returned on the left flank while
Milan Baros and Morientes continued up front in a partnership which has
so far failed to sparkle.

Everton brought back skipper Alan Stubbs in central defence after
injury, with Yobo reverting to a holding midfield role as the Toffees
continued with their tried and trusted 4-5-1 system.

James Beattie, back after a three-match ban, was on the bench along with
Steve Watson - who has been out since December with a stomach muscle
problem. James McFadden and Mikel Arteta failed fitness tests.

Two fierce tackles by Gerrard on Lee Carsley and Alessandro Pistone in
the opening minutes set the tone for this 201st Merseyside derby, with
Everton intent on surviving the initial onslaught.

Referee Rob Styles was trying to allow the game to flow, but poor
tackles by Tim Cahill on Warnock and then Luis Garcia on Kevin Kilbane
tested this approach by the official.

Baros wasted a couple of half-chances and Kilbane blocked a first-time
effort from Gerrard from Luis Garcia's free-kick, but the Toffees were
keeping their nerve and halting the Liverpool flow.

Warnock never really recovered from that blow to his ankle from Carsley,
and in the 20th minute the youngster was taken off and replaced by
Antonio Nunez, which meant a Liverpool reshuffle with Riise going to
left-back and Luis Garcia - who had been neat and clever on the right -
switching to the left flank.

Luis Garcia hooked over after Nigel Martyn had half punched away a Baros
cross in the 23rd minute, before Tony Hibbert was penalised for bringing
down the little Spaniard on the edge of the box.

The incident upset Everton, who surrounded the fallen midfielder
claiming he had gone down too easily.

Weir got too close, Luis Garcia reacted while on the deck and referee
Styles had a lot of sorting out to do before the free-kick was taken.

But in all the tension, Gerrard remained cool and when the 27th-minute
free-kick from Hamann was pushed to him, the Liverpool skipper guided
the 18-yard effort into the bottom left hand corner of Martyn's goal.

Five minutes later it was 2-0.

Morientes hit a dipping 30-yard effort and Martyn could only push the
ball onto the bar, with Luis Garcia rush in to head home.

Baros was through and shot badly wide and Luis Garcia hooked over, with
Everton's defence wilting under the pace and pressure confronting them.

Hamann then went down with no-one near him. After treatment on an ankle,
Styles dropped the ball to allow Osman to give the ball back to
Liverpool, but he decided to continue play for Everton to mount an attack.

The Anfield crowd erupted in disgust, and were equally upset when Weir
was booked for a foul on Baros, Yobo was then cautioned for cutting down
Nunez and Morientes limped away after a tackle by Yobo.

Liverpool had to bring on Igor Biscan for Hamann and Vladimir Smicer for
Morientes in quick succession with the atmosphere deteriorating alarmingly.

Next into the book was Osman for a foul on Baros in first-half
injury-time, before Carsley clipped a free-kick over the bar.

Everton brought on Beattie for Yobo at the break, the need for a greater
presence in attack blatantly obvious.

The team from across Stanley Park started the second period on the
offensive as Liverpool struggled to cope with the loss of so many key
players.

But Baros had the chance to settle the affair on 51 minutes when Stubbs
trod on the ball and fell over, allowing the Czech to race clear into an
open half.

But as he approached Martyn, he delayed his shot and allowed Hibbert the
chance to make a great saving tackle in the box.

Everton's next gambit was the most obvious with Duncan Ferguson coming
on up front in place of Bent as they pressed to get back into the match.

The aerial onslaught intensified with Jamie Carragher and the uncertain
Pellegrino under siege at times.

Liverpool had Gerrard and Biscan deep and just Baros in attack as the
Everton pressure grew.

Ferguson was at war with the two Liverpool centre-backs, referee Styles
needing to be close to the action to keep a grip on things.

Baros, who saw one 25-yard effort dip over, again could have finished
the game after 68 minutes.

He fought his way clear of Weir's grabbing hands, Styles playing
advantage, but as he got to the box again he delayed and allowed Martyn
- with his feet - to deflect the effort wide.

Weir had left Baros in a heap on the left touchline before the striker
snapped and got himself sent off for his next tackle, launching himself
into Stubbs as the Everton man cleared. Referee Styles showed an
immediate red card and Liverpool were down to ten men.

Inside four minutes Everton had pulled one back. Ferguson won a header
and Cahill lashed the ball inside Jerzy Dudek's left hand post. Steve
Finnan was booked, Watson replaced Pistone and Hibbert was booked for a
foul on Smicer. But the home side clung on and the whole side, including
Benitez hugged each other in the centre of the pitch at the end, showing
how much it meant to the Anfield men.

AnfieldRoad.com - Derby build-up - quotes

AnfieldRoad.com - Derby build-up - quotes: "Derby build-up - quotes

Written by Jim Boardman
Sunday, 20 March 2005

Some quotes ahead of today's derby confrontation at Anfield.

Everton manager, David Moyes. 'At the moment, it's a good season for us whatever happens. The last nine games dictate whether it is going to be great, but we are trying to keep the pressure off the players. We're in a position now where, if we continue to carry on playing for the rest of the season as we have done so far, then it really could prove to be a great season for us. I haven't said that directly to the players because we just want to go about things as quietly as possible. But it's there - there are nine games left now and that is the challenge for us. We have risen to the challenge all season and there is no reason we can't meet the final challenge. We know what victory would mean, and yes a draw would be a fantastic result as well. It is a massive game and really these are the games that you come to Everton for.'

Liverpool boss, Rafael Benitez. 'I believe we have more quality than Everton, but it is a case of making it count.
We have plenty of ability and skill, but sometimes we haven't had the right mentality. Everton are doing very well and are having a very good season. They work hard as a team and all the players have the same idea. In Valencia we worked like that, and sometimes it is very difficult to beat those teams. We have more quality, but it's not always about quality in football. Sometimes we haven't had the right mentality in games, or we have lost concentration early on.'

Reds captain Steven Gerrard. 'This one is about more than pride, there might be millions at stake. They are very emotional games anyway, but this one might just be the biggest Merseyside derby I've ever played in. The winners won't have booked their place in the Champions League, but they will have struck a real psychological blow against their rivals. The league is not going to change dramatically between now and the end of the season so it is vital we cut the gap.'

Liverpool's Spanish star Luis Garcia. 'It will be a physical game, but I'm confident I can cope with it. After almost a season in England, I'm more used to these kind of games. I want to show people I can play and do well in this kind of game. I want to prove that on Sunday. When I first came here I started off well and I was playing like I have always done in La Liga. Then defenders got to know more about me and it has got harder because teams aren't interested in playing football. They just want to stop me playing. I don't like that in football but I have to get used to it. It's a challenge for me, but one I'm confident I can win. Of course I'm confident we'll finish fourth. There are still enough points to play for and we can do it. That's how we have to think. At this moment we can't say we're better than Everton because they're fourth and we're behind them. So far they've been better than us, but the season isn't finished yet and there's still time for us. We can't think of anything other than winning this weekend. The result against Blackburn was disappointing because it was probably our most important game of the season and we didn't perform. Now we must move on.'"
