REDS DUO IN DRAW WITH GERMANY
By Steve Hunter

Liverpool duo Scott Carson and John Welsh were in action for England
Under-21s when they drew 2-2 with Germany in an Under-21 European
Championship qualifier.

Unfortunately a mistake from Reds keeper Carson handed Germany an
equaliser when he hit a clearance straight to an opposing player, but it
most be noted he did make several excellent saves in the match. It could
also be said that a succession of bad misses cost England the points.

Carson played the full 90 minutes while Welsh played a very impressive
second half after appearing from the bench.

England Under-21 manager Peter Taylor backed Carson to bounce back and
said: "Scotty is very down and it was a bad mistake but he is a great
keeper and he will bounce back."

Welsh and Carson are next in action on Tuesday when they entertain
Azerbaijan at Middlesbrough's Riverside Stadium in a Euro Under-21
qualifier.
