Reds cancel Japan tour

LIVERPOOL today confirmed they have cancelled their pre-season tour of
Japan because it clashes with their Champions League qualifying games.

The Reds had arranged two friendly matches in Japan at the end of July,
but these have had to be scrapped following UEFA's decision to allow
them to defend their European Cup title.

Instead of a high profile tour of Japan, the Reds will play the first
leg of their Champions League first round qualifier on July 12/ 13, with
the return match on July 19/20.

Chief executive Rick Parry said: "We are very sorry to announce the
cancellation of our tour to Japan because it clashes with our possible
involvement in the second round of qualifiers for the Champions League.

"We've explored ways to fulfil our commitment, but had to cancel."
