Gerrard: I'm ready for Boro return
By Andy Hunter, Daily Post

STEVEN GERRARD declared himself fit and ready for a Premiership return at
Middlesbrough after making a successful comeback from his broken metatarsal
last night.

The Liverpool captain made his first appearance in a red shirt for two
months as a second-half substitute in the reserves' 1-0 win over Wolves.

Gerrard's presence drew a record crowd of 6,280 to Telford's Bucks Park
Stadium and fears of a pitch invasion led to the midfielder being withdrawn
a minute from time.

And after feeling no reaction to the broken foot suffered against
Manchester United on September 20 he announced he would be fit for
Saturday's trip to Middlesbrough - if selected.

"It is good to be back," said Gerrard, who had a steel pin inserted into
the broken metatarsal to hasten his recovery.

"It has been a frustrating time sat on the sidelines but the lads have done
brilliantly without me.

"Now I'm just looking forward to playing in the Premiership again and
helping them out.

"I enjoyed the game and I felt no reaction to the injury, which is the most
important thing. I thought the crowd was great as well, I really enjoyed it.

"The foot feels fine and now I am looking to be involved against
Middlesbrough in some way because I am desperate to get back into the swing
of things. But whether I play or not is down to the manager."

Neil Mellor scored the only goal of the game as Hugh McAuley's reserve side
won for the first time in six matches.
