GERRARD FIT TO FACE SPURS

Rafael Benitez confirmed that Steven Gerrard is fit to lead the
Liverpool side in their Premiership home clash with Tottenham.

The influential Reds skipper missed the heroic midweek draw in Turin
with a groin injury picked up in last weekend's defeat at Manchester City.

But after receiving treatment at Melwood this week Gerrard is now ready
for a return to action.

Benitez said: "Steven is better and maybe he will play," Rafa told the
press this morning. "Obviously this is good news for us. It is important
for us to have more possibilities now."

"He was delighted for all of us and has trained okay since we returned."

Xabi Alonso and Djibril Cisse - who both returned in Turin after
long-term injuries - are also available.

Fernando Morientes and Mauricio Pellegrino were cup-tied against Juve
and return to the squad. Dietmar Hamman, Josemi, Chris Kirkland, Harry
Kewell and Florent Sinama-Pongolle are all still out injured.

Tottenham's leading goalscorer Jermain Defoe and centre-back Anthony
Gardner both remain doubtful.

Defoe did not train on Thursday after being struck down by illness and a
sore throat while Gardner has hardly trained for a fortnight as he
continues to be troubled by a foot injury.

Tottenham head coach Martin Jol was waiting to assess them both in
training on Friday before making a decision on whether to include them
in the squad.

With Defoe doubtful and Mido out for two weeks with a stomach strain,
Robbie Keane seems set to start up front alongside Fredi Kanoute.

Michael Brown is out for a fortnight after suffering a small fracture to
the top of his foot in last week's win over Newcastle while Thimothee
Atouba is suspended.

Noe Pamarot (knee), Pedro Mendes (toe) and Noureddine Naybet (hamstring)
are all long-term casualties and will not travel, but Goran Bunjevcevic
and Michael Dawson are both in line for a call.
