Liverpool could be fined by UEFA
By Andy Hunter, Daily Post
LIVERPOOL could be hit with a UEFA fine after their supporters
retaliated to a missile bombardment at the Stadio Delle Alpi.
Liverpool fans were subjected to a sustained assault during Wednesday's
Champions League quarter-final as Juventus supporters hurled bottles,
coins, flares and plastic seats at the away section.
Juventus are expected to be punished by Uefa after a week of shame for
Italian football.
But the Anfield club may also be penalised after some of their fans
hurled the missiles back.
Last night a UEFA spokesman revealed: "We are still waiting for the
official report from the security officer that we had at the game.
"So far we haven't opened any disciplinary procedures but usually a club
would be fined if their supporters were throwing missiles in a stadium.
"If it is the first time it has happened to this club then maybe it
would only be a warning but it usually depends on how many missiles were
thrown."
Liverpool were fined £2,000 in February 2001 after a minor crowd
disturbance against Roma.
