Liverpool aim to finish on a high

LIVERPOOL under-18s look to complete their FA Premier Academy League
season on a high with victory at Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow (kick-off
11am).

Although John Owens's side will finish bottom of Group C, the final few
weeks have given promise of a brighter year to come in September.

Many of the schoolboy players, from Dave Shannon's U16s, who will be
full-time next season have been playing over the past few weeks in
Owens's side and performing with credit.

And with two wins and two draws in their last five Liverpool are in
their best run of form.

Owens said: "It is a shame the season is finishing. Sometimes it just
needs something to happen to get you on a good run. A win, even if it is
a 1-0, builds confidence.

"We have one game left so at least we want to end the season in a
positive manner.

"It was nice to win the final game here (at home), and we just want to
do the same in the final game of the season."

Liverpool go into the final match with a host of injury worries. The
five long-term injury victims are still out. And last week Danny
O'Donnell, Danny Guthrie and Conal Platt missed the win over Barnsley.

Centre-back O'Donnell played for the reserves and is available, and
Owens is hopeful striker Platt can also feature. Midfielder Guthrie is
out with an ankle injury.

Owens added: "All three have been influential, so last week we had
centre-back, centre-midfield and striker all out. But the young lads who
came in did well."
