RAFA RUES REF'S DECISIONS
By Paul Eaton

Rafael Benitez was left rueing crucial decisions from referee Steve Bennett
which he felt cost his side the game at Middlesbrough.
The home side claimed the three points with a 2-0 win as goals in each half
from Riggott and Zenden sent Benitez's boys crashing to their fourth away
defeat of the season.

But it could have been a different story had the ref allowed Garcia's first
half goal to stand, instead of incorrectly ruling the strike out for offside.

And Benitez wasn't convinced that Zenden's second half strike shouldn't
have been ruled out for offside as well.

He said: "We scored and they scored today, but the referee said yes to them
and no to us.

"I feel Garcia's goal should have stood because the ball appeared to come
off a Middlesbrough defender before it reached Garcia.

"I'm not sure about Zenden's goal either. Maybe that was offside but it was
very close."

As far as the game was concerned, Benitez was disappointed his side fell
away after a bright start.

He added: "We started well for the first twenty minutes. We had plenty of
space and some possibilities but after that spell they controlled the game.
We didn't clear the ball properly and that cost us.

"Once you lose goals it makes it more difficult because it means you have
to attack quicker and then they are more dangerous on the break."
