Twin injury tonic for Benitez
By Chris Bascombe, Liverpool Echo

RAFAEL BENITEZ received a double injury boost today as Harry Kewell was
declared fit and Antonio Nunez stepped up his comeback.

New signing Nunez endured a nightmare start to his Anfield career when he
damaged knee ligaments during his first training session.

Although he's not yet in full training, he's running again and has been
pencilled in for a possible return to action in a reserve game with
Sunderland next week.

Failing that, his Reds bow will be at Birmingham reserves on September 23.

Aussie midfielder Kewell missed the defeat to Bolton with a calf problem,
but he's been training normally all week and is available for
selection-against West Brom this Saturday.

Benitez has endured a frustrating fortnight as the majority of his squad
has been on international duty.

The Spanish coach has organised a late training session today as the likes
of Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, Djibril Cisse, Milan Baros, Xabi Alonso
and Sami Hyypia returned to Melwood.

Meanwhile, Benitez may target stars from his former club during the January
transfer window, having now settled his dispute with the Spanish champions.

Benitez has been assured the £2m he was owed in bonuses for winning the
Spanish title and UEFA Cup following a judgement by the Spanish Football
Federation.

Benitez felt unable to conduct any business with his old club while the
dispute was ongoing.

Now it's been resolved, he may reignite his interest in the likes of Mista
and Ayala, who were the mainstays of his all-conquering Valencia side.
