The Reds reserves beat Blackburn by two goals to one thanks to a
double from Ramon Calliste. A stoppage time goal from on loan Red
Sinama Pongolle could not rescue anything for Rovers.

The Reds were missing Lee Peltier through suspension but were able
to welcome Besian Idrizaj back from injury and he took his place on
the bench.

Blackburn had some early chances in the game but the eye of Shefki
Juqi wasn't quite in on each occassion. The Reds had the ball in the
net on twelve minutes when Calliste slotted hom an Anderson cross
but the offside flag had gone up. Three minutes later and Adam
Hammill had penalty appeals turned down.

The Reds were ahead after just 24 minutes when Ramon Calliste
latched on to a Guthrie through ball and finished cooly past Lee in
the Rovers goal. Calliste doubled the lead just six minutes later
and the Reds were in control of the game.

The Reds could have gone further ahead before half time as both
Anderson and Guthrie nearly scored. It hadn't been all one way
traffic though as just before the Anderson chance he had cleared off
his own line.

The second half saw fewer chances and it wasn't until stoppage time
at the end of the game when Rovers pulled a goal back. Florent
Sinama Pongolle who had earlier missed a good opportunity slotted
the ball home from close range. With time up though Rovers had no
way back in to the game.

Also - I have just added a team picture for the 1956-57 season.
This has come courtesy of Colin V who is a regular visitor to the
website.

There are now a huge number of team groups in the season archive and
if you can help fill in any of the gaps then please let me know.
The first one back which is empty is 1960-61.
