Crouch to miss start of season
By Tony Barrett, Liverpool Echo

NEW signing Peter Crouch will miss the start of Liverpool's Premiership
campaign through suspension after being sent-off for Southampton at the
end of last season.

The ban means Liverpool fans are unlikely to see the £7m signing in
Premiership action until the second week in September.

Crouch was sent off in Southampton's penultimate game of the season at
Crystal Palace and picked up a three-match ban.

He missed the final game of the last campaign against Manchester United
but must serve the final two matches of his ban at the start of the
coming season.

It means Crouch won't be available for the opening day fixture against
Middlesbrough or Liverpool's first home game of the season against
Sunderland.

With the Reds' next game at Charlton set to be called off if they
progress to the third qualifying round of the Champions League, and with
the home game against Arsenal already postponed because of the Super Cup
final, Crouch is likely to have to wait until September 10 to make his
league debut for his new club in the away game at Tottenham.

Crouch will, however, be eligible for the Champions League clash against
FKB Kaunas in Lithuania next week as long as Liverpool register his
signing with UEFA before midnight tonight.
