RANGERS KEEN TO SIGN STEPHANE
By Paul Eaton

Glasgow Rangers have joined the race to sign out-of-favour Liverpool defender Stephane Henchoz.

Henchoz, who is free to leave Anfield during this month's transfer window, has opened negotiations with the Ibrox club and could be set to follow former Anfield team-mate Gregory Vignal to Ibrox.

Premiership outfit Manchester City are also reported to be interested in the Swiss star who is looking for a new club after failing to establish himself in Rafael Benitez's Anfield plans.

His representative Jorg Vonmatt said: "Rangers is a real option for Stephane and he was very impressed with what Alex McLeish had to say to him about the club.

"Stephane also liked McLeish's ideas on football and he has also spoken with Gregory Vignal about what he could expect if he signed for Rangers.

"Gregory has assured him that the prestige of playing at Liverpool is matched by Rangers and Stephane is very interested in coming to Scotland.
