As Liverpool prepare to begin the defence of their Champions League
trophy in Seville on Tuesday night boss Rafael Benitez has declared his
current squad of players is better than the one which secured European
glory in Istanbul last season.
Although the Liverpool manager isn't yet looking ahead to the prospect of
defending their title in Paris next May he admits he's happy with the
players at his disposal for this new European campaign.

Speaking at a press conference in Seville on Monday night Benitez said: "In
my opinion we have a better team and a better squad. We still have some
problems in some areas but we have to manage the situation until January.

"I don't want to think about winning the Champions League again or the
pressure that comes with being champions. All I want to do is concentrate
on the next game against Real Betis. We know it is going to be a difficult
game, they have good players and even though they have some injury problems
they have a good enough squad that other players can come in and do a job.

"We did a good job against Tottenham at the weekend and I'm looking for the
same kind of performance against Betis, but with some goals this time."

Asked by a local journalist whether Liverpool are playing for only second
place in the group with Chelsea the favourites to progress at the top of
the table, Benitez replied: "In football you never know what can happen. We
beat Chelsea in the Champions League last season so we have to be confident
but for now all our attention is on Betis."
