Crouch targets capital comeback
By Chris Bascombe, Liverpool Echo

PETER CROUCH is on target to make his return from injury in time to face
Spurs on September 10.

The £7m striker is currently sidelined with a hamstring problem, but
would still have been suspended for Saturday's visit of Sunderland anyway.

He won't be available for the return leg of the Champions League
qualifier with CSKA Sofia on Tuesday, but has an outside chance of
featuring in the Super Cup Final.

The trip to White Hart Lane is a more realistic target, however.

Manager Rafa Benitez is also confident Harry Kewell will soon return to
training after recovering from a hernia operation.

"I hope in three or four weeks we will have most of the squad available
again," said the manager.

Meanwhile, Michael Owen has no intention of rejoining former Liverpool
boss Gerard Houllier at Lyon.

Houllier wants to use the £24m kitty from the Michael Essien deal to
sign the 25-year-old.

Owen remains intent on returning to Anfield.

Indeed, the striker is more concerned about the French champions making
a Liverpool comeback more difficult by putting in a huge offer for him.

Despite already signing John Carew this summer, former Liverpool boss
Houllier and chairman Jean Michel Aulas say they're admirers of Owen.

Aulas said: "If you ask me whether I would be happy to welcome Michael
Owen to the club, the answer is yes. Of course I would."

Pepe Reina will make his Spanish international debut in tonight's
friendly with Uruguay.

Fernando Morientes will also make his first start for his country for 11
months, partnering former Real Madrid team mate Raul.

Liverpool are expected to appoint England under-21 physiotherapist Rob
Price to replace Dave Galley, who recently left the club to join Derby
County.
