MELLOR HOPING FOR PRE-SEASON RETURN

Neil Mellor is hoping to recover from a double knee operation in time
for the start of pre-season training on June 27.
The Liverpool striker has been sidelined for the past couple of months
after having an operation on tendonitis in both of his knees.

He is still a couple of weeks away from running but remains hopeful his
rehabilitation programme will bring him back to full training in time to
start preparations for the new season with the rest of the squad at
Melwood next month.

He said: "There's never a good time to get injured but this problem came
at a bad time for me because I was in the squad and showing people I
could score goals.

"But I've had problems with my knees for a while and it was painful to
get through some games. There were times when I was in so much pain that
I couldn't even run for the ball.

"In the end I had no option but to have the operation, even though I
knew it would rule me out for four months.

"Although I've scored some goals this season I've also been through a
lot of injury problems. As well as the knees I've had problems with
tonsilitis and have had my throat operated on as well.

"I just want to be back out there with the lads and I'm hoping I can
return for pre-season. That's my aim. I've never really had a proper
pre-season so I'm hoping that changes this summer."
