MANCUNIAN MELLOR FIRED UP FOR UNITED CLASH
By Mark Platt

Neil Mellor would love nothing better than to score in a Liverpool
victory over Manchester United at Anfield tomorrow.
The young striker may have lived most of his life in Manchester but his
dislike for United is as strong as that of any Scouser in the Reds squad.

A boyhood Manchester City fan, Mellor harbours the same anti-Old
Trafford feelings as the majority of fans who will pack Anfield for the
eagerly anticipated visit of Alex Ferguson's team.

And while he admits that the arrival of Fernando Morientes has cast
doubts over whether he'll actually play against United, he's raring to
go if given the nod.

"Everybody wants to play in this type of game but we'll have to see what
the gaffer decides to do on Saturday," says the striker who once scored
three against the Red Devils on his debut for Liverpool under-17s.

"I don't need telling what it means to beat United. I was brought up a
City fan and I've lived in Manchester since I was five years old, so it
would be a great honour if I could play against United. I've been around
the whole United and City thing since I was really young. It would be
great to beat them."

"People around here don't need to get fired up to play United. They all
know. From the under-10s all the way up to the first team, everybody
wants to play against them and to beat them.

"The lads are all looking forward to the game. They've been talking
about it on the training ground.

"United at home is a massive game in our season. The Kop, the fans, the
players, the staff, everybody will be up for it on Saturday lunchtime.

"United are always going to be up there challenging. We know that, and
we want to beat them so we can finish above them."
