Gerrard eyes quick return

Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a broken metatarsal bone.

The England international has targeted the Champions League match against Deportivo La Coruna on 3 November for his return.

It was initially feared Gerrard would be out for two months after picking up the injury against Manchester United last month.

But Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez said: "Perhaps he's now three weeks away."

Liverpool also have Antonio Nunez missing from their midfield and the former Real Madrid man is expected to return at roughly the same time as Gerrard.

Benitez said: "Steven's injury needed time and when both him and Nunez return it will be like having two new signings."
